Superfruit Breakfast Smoothie

Guys, guys! I heart breakfast.

I have a big appetite, and the first thing I think of in the morning is how cute my husband is and if he made coffee yet. Because if not, that is the first thing I’ll do for sure. But then- what to eat?!

Lots of us say we “aren’t breakfast people”. This is so silly! It’s like saying, “I don’t like to have energy in the morning, and I love to be starving by the time lunchtime finally comes”.

We need fuel people!

GLP-1, a gut hormone that improves insulin sensitivity and regulates fullness, is increased when we consume a morning meal. One study showed that when we do skip our morning nosh, the change in hunger signals can lead to eating almost 20% more at lunch.

That can effectively negate our afternoon workout!

I know we are busy people though guys. And because it is National Donut Day (srrriously, why is this a thing?), I’m highlighting a super-quick-to- make breakfast idea to keep us motivated and strictly avoiding anything round and doughy- Superfruit smoothie!

I adapted this recipe from one I found on Popsugar. I like to modify most things to fit my taste and pack in more nutrition!

Frozen dragon fruit was at our Safeway this week, and I had to give this strange sounding fruit a try. It is super bright and vibrant with a lightly sweet flavor.

Total Time: 5 minutes

Serving Size: 1

Calories per serving: 370

Fat per serving: 18

Superfruit Breakfast Smoothie

Nutrient packed with about 20 grams protein, only 14 grams sugar, high in fiber and antioxidants, and with healthy doses of vitamin C and D and calcium.


  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1/4 cup frozen dragon fruit chunks
  • 1 tbsp. almond butter
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 to 1 cup kale
  • 1 tbsp. chia seeds
  • 1/4 cup milk of choice (I used soy)
  • 1 tbsp. liquid omega 3s (optional)


  • Mix all ingredients in high speed blender
  • Blend
  • Put in pretty cup
  • Enjoy!
